Classic Car Commercials of the 50’s & 60’s – Part 2 of 4

Commercials were very different 1/2 a century ago. Much longer. Volkswagon, Shell gas, Goodyear tire, Hertz, Edsel along with Milton Berle and his Buick are featured.

You bring up a very good point, about how we have evolved re: the safety issue. Still, I lmiss those days when the announcer just informed you, sometimes at the risk of putting you to sleep (…some of those commercials were around 2minutes!) than the commercials today across all industries that insult your intelligence.

i have to say that the last commercial took the biscuit for blatant seling of a ‘customer’ that really was an actor and as for her ‘notes’ LOL

to be honest i am glad to be in an age where safety of a vehicle is taking a higher concern over styling although it still rates highly!

Exactly right! We are in a catch 22 here. The Oil companies want to make sure they are still involved in some way as we gradually switch to electric, etc.

Because this industry is so huge, I expect they will be able to keep their hand in the pot in some way. Other smaller industries, buggy whips for the days of horse and carriage, and manufacturers of typewriters had to find other ways to be relevant or die. We are seeing this in the photo industry, too. Who really needs film anymore?

I guess because they want to keep charging so much for fuel..

That’s why it’s taken so long for an alternative energy to emerge- fuel companies heavily promote the continued dependency on petrol fuels.

You have a good point. What ever happened to all of these “advances” from those days? And if Shell really had something special, why weren’t they promoting it during the days of $4 gas?

Well geez, the answer to how we can lessen our dependency on foreign oil is right there.
We just need to more Platformate!
